Soup 0.1.0

First public preview of Soup, a local first desktop editor and note workspace, packaged for Linux x64 and arm64.

Overview

Soup is a desktop editor and note workspace that treats your files and folders as the source of truth. No required cloud service, no required account, and no telemetry.

This release ships the first public Linux packages. Windows and macOS packaging is planned for a follow up release once code signing is in place.

Highlights

  • Local first workspace: open any folder and your files stay exactly where they are.
  • CodeMirror 6 editor with syntax highlighting for the most common languages.
  • Markdown preview with Mermaid diagrams, image and PDF previews.
  • Tree sitter symbol outline plus LSP integration for definitions, references, rename and diagnostics.
  • Integrated terminal, command palette and workspace wide search with regex support.
  • Linux packaging for x64 and arm64 in AppImage, Debian and RPM formats.

  • Folder based workspace model with metadata stored under .soup/.

  • Markdown preview with live rendering and link navigation.
  • Mermaid diagram preview with inline fence diagnostics.
  • Image and PDF previews in the editor area.

Code intelligence

  • Tree sitter symbol extraction and document outline.
  • LSP integration covering definition, references, rename and diagnostics.
  • Workspace wide search with regex support.

Productivity

  • Integrated terminal built on xterm.js and portable pty.
  • Task list and task board views derived from markdown checkboxes.
  • Command palette with file, symbol and action search.
  • Session persistence for open tabs, active tab and scroll positions.

Look and feel

  • Dark and light themes with a calm, low chrome interface.
  • Content Security Policy and workspace boundary enforcement on by default.
  • DOMPurify based HTML sanitisation for every preview surface.

Packaging

  • Linux AppImage, Debian and RPM packages for x64 and arm64.
  • Manual upgrade path. No auto update yet.
